Churches and places of worship have unfortunately become places of increased violence and are one of the most vulnerable venues of an Active Shooter Event. This is due to a number of factors which include the physical make up of a place of worship (large numbers of people in close proximity to each other with no security checks to enter), the fact that some violators have issues with people of certain faiths or races wishing to do them harm, and the fact that a church is an inherently “soft target”. Simply put, people do not go to worship expecting an act of violence and therefore are not in a heightened sense of security in church. This makes them more vulnerable than they would be at work or in a public place such as a shopping mall or sporting event.
